Premier League News – Tottenham Hotspur are facing a dismal start to the Premier League season after losing 2-0 at home to Newcastle United on Saturday evening. Despite entering the season with high optimism after a summer spending spree, Spurs’ hopes dimmed quickly. After losing 3-0 in their opener against Brentford, they have now failed to score in their first two league games and are rooted to the bottom of the table ahead of a trip to Nottingham Forest next weekend.
In the match against Newcastle, Spurs fielded five of their eight summer signings, although Savinho’s absence due to a muscle injury prevented the addition of one new player. Unfortunately, this squad overhaul has not been able to bring about significant improvements after the disappointing 2025-26 season. It seems that new players need more time to adapt and integrate.
This summer, Tottenham have also sold several main players such as Cristian Romero and Djed Spence. Coach Roberto De Zerbi’s decision against Newcastle suggests the possibility of more players leaving before the transfer deadline on Tuesday night. Pape Matar Sarr, who is not in the squad, is being targeted by Juventus, Monaco and Premier League clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Omar Marmoush started the match against Newcastle, while Richarlison was not included in the squad at all. The Brazilian has long been rumored to be leaving Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and De Zerbi’s decision may signal the end of his Spurs career. Since joining in 2022 for a fee of £60 million, Richarlison has not fully lived up to expectations, contributing just 32 goals and 15 assists in 134 appearances.
Despite Savinho’s absence, Richarlison still does not have a place in the squad against Newcastle, although De Zerbi praised the player’s “extraordinary” attitude and behavior. His absence, coupled with Spurs’ plans to bring in a new striker such as Cody Gakpo from Liverpool, indicates that Richarlison may have to look for a new club in the next 72 hours for the sake of a better 2026-27 season.
