Basketball News: The Indonesian National Basketball Team has qualified for the second round of the FIBA Asia Cup. This result is after occupying third place in Group C standings after recording one win and two defeats. Indonesia recorded a victory after beating Singapore with a score of 80-54 on August 28 2026.
Then they experienced two defeats when they faced Hong Kong on August 30 2026 with a score of 60-71 and a 63-77 defeat to Malaysia on Monday (31/8).
Managing Director of the National Team Agency, Jeremy Imanuel Santoso, expressed his gratitude to the players who fought for Indonesia in this first round.
“First of all, we want to thank the players who fought for the first round of the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifier in Malaysia, even though the results were very far from what we wanted,” explained Jeremy.
“The defeats against Hong Kong and Malaysia will be used as material for our immediate evaluation to face the next window at the end of November, in the continuation of the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifier. We have to make sure we can achieve victory in the remaining matches in the next window,” he continued.
“However, again, this defeat to Malaysia is a very bitter defeat. The national team must forget this performance and immediately prepare the team for the Asian Games. Training camp will start on September 3 2026, and you can be sure that we will send the strongest team we can assemble for the Asian Games,” he stressed.
“This result is very far from the target, and we will carry out an evaluation and ensure that in the next window and at the next event, we can perform much better,” said Jeremy.
In Round 2 of the 2029 FIBA Asia Cup Pre-Qualification, the Indonesian National Basketball Team was part of Group F. There were Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia and Fiji.
