Roger Federer Assesses Carlos Alcaraz’s Chances of Winning the US Open After Being Absent

Tennis News: Roger Federer has never hesitated to express his admiration for Carlos Alcaraz since the young tennis player first emerged several seasons ago.

And, of course it is not surprising that this admiration is increasing, considering all the achievements that the Spanish tennis player has achieved at such a young age.

The 23-year-old seems to keep breaking records with each new season and that’s what makes his absence over the past four months even harder to take. Tennis fans have long missed his great action and regardless of how he performs at the US Open, it will be a pleasure to see him back on court.

The former Swiss tennis player has discussed the Spaniard’s chances of advancing further at the US Open, not long after Andy Roddick predicted the Spaniard would win at Flushing Meadows, New York even though the tournament is his first tournament in four months.

While talking to ESPN, Federer said that he didn’t need to determine who would win, but he commented on how open the competition was at the US Open in men’s singles this season.

Federer emphasized, “The situation is very difficult to predict. Yes. I mean, of course I would favor Carlitos and Novak if Jannik Sinner doesn’t participate, but about Carlitos — we don’t know for sure — and also Novak. Hmm… At the moment we really can’t say for sure.”

Then, highlighting Alcaraz in particular and how he is performing after such a long absence, Federer added, “I think it depends on the situation. We probably won’t know for sure without more concrete information. How long has he been training? Has he been able to train with maximum intensity? How long has it been? A week? A month? I think those things make a difference.”

“If the preparation is only one week, I think the situation will be very complicated. If it takes a month, I think the chances are quite big that he can immediately find his rhythm. He has to get through the first three rounds to start building momentum.”

“If he had a month of quality training — or at least more than a week — I think that would really help him feel confident that he can win this tournament.”

The situation was made worse by the fact that Alcaraz had a very tough draw for his return match at the US Open.
