Tennis News: The 2026 US Open mixed doubles season has ended and Amanda Anisimova is one of the tennis players who has enlivened the category.
The Czech duo, Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik also emerged as US Open champions in mixed doubles after defeating Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in the final.
A number of big names also competed in the revamped event, including Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams. Meanwhile, the US Open runner up for the 2025 season also competed with his compatriot, Learner Tien.
The two home players lost in the first round against their compatriots Tommy Paul and Emma Navarro with 5-3, 4-2.
In an exclusive interview with Tennishead, the 2025 Wimbledon runner-up revealed his dream mixed doubles partner from throughout tennis history.
“My dream mixed doubles partner is — it’s hard to choose — but I think I would choose Roger Federer. He’s someone I watched a lot when I was growing up and I like his style of play,” said Anisimova.
“And more importantly, I love his poise and how he always looks so calm and in control. It’s as if nothing gets in his way when he competes. So, I would definitely choose him, I think.”
Former world number 1 Federer returned to the US Open earlier this week. The Swiss tennis maestro, who retires from his playing career in the 2022 season, first competed against fellow retiree Andy Roddick in an exhibition singles match.
Federer beat Roddick 6-3 at Arthur Ashe Stadiom. He then partnered with Roddick to face American tennis legends John McEnroe and Andre Agassi. They also won 7-5.
“It feels great to be back in New York,” said Federer. “It’s incredible. I have fond memories of this field, the fans here and this city. In the 2004 and 2005 seasons — that’s when it all started here — my love for New York grew thanks to the wins I had here.”
Meanwhile, Anisimova also expressed her desire to win the US Open, calling this ambition her ‘first dream’. He managed to reach the Grand Sam final last season before finally losing to the world number 1, Aryna Sabalenka.
“In my personal opinion, I feel like I have a chance — I try to stay humble and don’t usually talk like this — but I feel like I really have a chance to win every one of those tournaments,” Anisimova answered when asked which Grand Slam she was most likely to win.
“I am a tennis player who plays well on all courts and I have had some positive results in all the Grand Slams. I really like that about myself because I can adapt well to various types of court surfaces.”
“However, if I had to choose one Grand Slam to win, I would definitely choose the US Open, it’s my favorite tournament, it’s on home soil, and I really love the energy. So, that’s definitely the ultimate dream that I want to make come true one day.”
