National champion women’s doubles player, M Thinaah, believes that the two-week period after the China Masters will be the most important phase in her and Pearly Tan’s preparations for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games next month.

M Thinaah said that before fully focusing their attention on the biggest multi-sport event in Asia, the world number 5 pair will first face the challenge of the China Masters in Shenzhen on September 1-6.

“I think for now, our focus is on the China Masters because next week, we will first go to China to compete in that event. After that, we will have two weeks before the Asian Games.”

“I feel that period will be very important for Pearly and I in terms of training and preparation,” he told the media after attending the Thinaah Muralitharan National Badminton Players – Sports Icon Tour 2026 program at SK Convent Klang on Wednesday.

Regarding preparations for the 2027 SEA Games, M Thinaah said they will ensure to remain injury-free while focusing on every training session and match.

“Everyone wants to win and win a gold medal, but for us, we want to stay focused on one game at a time, one step at a time, and one point at a time,” added Thinaah.

“The results will speak for themselves. If the results are good, the ranking will also improve. So, we are focusing more on our preparations and ourselves.”

“(It’s inevitable that) there will be pressure because everyone is expecting us to win the gold medal, but we will use that as motivation to go out there and give our best.”

Meanwhile, M Thinaah also expressed her feelings about having the opportunity to return to the school where she started her primary education.

“I feel very happy because this is my old elementary school. It’s very nostalgic because not much has changed.”

“The teachers told me earlier that some students are active in sports, although not badminton. I hope my presence here will inspire them.”

“In sport, nothing is impossible. It’s not just about us, but they can also achieve success,” said Thinaah.
