Spanish League News: Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has returned to his best form after performing below his usual standards last season.
This English midfielder started the season by scoring a goal with a header against Espanyol last weekend, then performed brilliantly against Real Sociedad by contributing two *assists*—one each for Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.
In an interview with Real Madrid’s official media, Bellingham discussed his new role and the influence of Jose Mourinho on improving his performance at the start of this season.
“I feel freer; free to decide when to go down to pick up the ball, when to stay in front, or when to enter the penalty box,” explained Jude Bellingham.
“In my opinion, this is the best position for me, a position that allows me to show all my abilities. I am very grateful to the coach for trusting me to play this way,” said the England national team player.
When discussing his *assist* for Mbappe in the 4-1 win over Sociedad on Wednesday, Bellingham said:
“To be honest, it was more instinct. I think it was Kylian’s movement that created the goal; my job was just to put the ball in the right area for him.
“And because he was so quick, he was able to reach most of the balls, plus his finishing was brilliant. For both goals, it was their movement that was decisive.”
Regarding his assist for Vinicius in the same match, Bellingham added: “Yes, I still had some energy left in that match, and we were in a good moment where everyone was full of adrenaline and pressing very well.”
“My shot was blocked and I wanted to press high to win the ball back; in my opinion, that’s one of the most important things in football when you lose the ball, is to try to win it back as quickly as possible.”
“I was dribbling the ball and Vinícius was there, so I passed the ball to him; he then hugged me tightly and said ‘thank you’, and that’s how it happened.”
