Transfer News: Enzo Fernandez has the potential to leave Chelsea in the final days of the summer transfer window. Manchester City are said to be increasingly serious about pursuing the Argentinian midfielder and have the opportunity to make a bid before the window closes, after an agreement on personal terms between Fernandez and the Manchester club has reportedly been reached.
Fernandez has been linked with a move to Manchester City to re-team with Enzo Maresca. Chelsea itself has released 13 players this summer, including Andrey Santos, so Fernandez’s large-money departure is still possible if an offer deemed appropriate comes from City.
Enzo Fernandez’s situation became even more interesting after Xabi Alonso did not include him in the squad when Chelsea won 2-0 over Luton Town in the Carabao Cup. The midfielder also has the opportunity to be absent again when the Blues face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday (30/8/2026) evening WIB.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Fernandez has reached a verbal agreement with Manchester City regarding personal terms. Thus, the main issue in the transfer process is no longer the agreement between the player and his prospective new club, but rather the decision that must be taken by both clubs.
Romano said Fernandez’s move now depends on discussions between Chelsea and Manchester City. To date, City have not made an official offer to Chelsea, but the club is expected to make contact soon to discuss a possible transfer for the midfielder.
After receiving an approach from City, Chelsea will determine the price they want for Fernandez. The 25-year-old player joined the Blues from Benfica in January 2023 for a transfer fee of 107 million pounds, so Chelsea are expected to ask for a similar or even higher amount to let him go.
Manchester City itself lost a number of midfielders this summer. Rodri, Nico Gonzalez and Tijjani Reijnders have left the club, while Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi are part of City’s new investment in midfield.
These conditions give City a reason to strengthen the middle sector again. However, Chelsea certainly has a strong bargaining position considering their large investment in Enzo Fernandez and his contract with the London club.

Manchester City may have to prepare a very large offer to change Chelsea’s attitude. The value could potentially even be close to the fee they paid when signing Anderson from Nottingham Forest, but the final decision still depends on Chelsea’s assessment of the offer.
With the transfer window drawing to a close, Fernandez’s future is now one of the most interesting situations at Stamford Bridge. City’s official offer and Chelsea’s response in recent days will determine whether the midfielder truly ends his career with the Blues.
