European Basketball News: Partizan Belgrade is ready to start their 2026-27 pre-season games. Joan Penarroya explains the next player targets.
Although four players are absent due to obligations to defend the national team (Carlik Jones with South Sudan, Ethan Thompson with Puerto Rico, and Nikola Tanaskovic and Arijan Lakic with Serbia), the rest of the squad are fully prepared.
Partizan coach Joan Penarroya begins his first full season as team captain after taking over the position from Zeljko Obradovic last season.
In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, Penarroya discussed various topics related to the team’s progress last season as well as their future prospects.
Joan Penarroya revealed that Partizan is interested in bringing in two more players from the transfer market—including considering options for players from the NBA—but he emphasized that he prefers to be patient rather than rushing to recruit players just to increase the squad size:
“We are looking for another player who can play as a small forward and shooting guard, as well as a tall player to fill the power forward position, or a player in the *power forward/center* position who has the ability to shoot long distances to open up playing space,” he said.
“The current market situation is not easy, but we must not panic. I prefer to wait rather than rush into recruiting just to bring in players.”
Penarroya once worked with Jabari Parker at Barcelona, but he will not revive the player’s career with Partizan.
As revealed by the Spanish coach, the team is preparing for the new season without including Parker in their plans.
