In this fierce battle, the Red and White squad had to admit Cambodia’s superiority with a narrow score of 2-3, even though they were previously unbeaten until the top round.
On the other hand, new history was created at the prestigious Southeast Asian volleyball event. The Cambodian team led by Suon Channaro managed to make history by winning the title for the first time in the SEA V-Cup 2026 Men’s Leg I. Indonesia, which was previously the favorite, had to settle for runner-up position after a very competitive battle.
Now, both teams are preparing to continue their competition in the SEA V-Cup 2026 Men’s Leg II which will take place at the Jakarta International Velodrome, Rawamangun, from 22 to 26 July 2026. As Asian Champions, the Indonesian National Team considers this defeat as momentum to hone their mentality and focus on facing the next match.
During the match, Indonesia fielded the best formation from the start. However, Cambodia showed superior play by dominating the first set, leaving Garuda trailing 13-20. Even though Coach Reidel Toiran tried to change tactics, Indonesia was only able to get close to Cambodia at the end of the set, but had to give up 23-25.
The second set presented a better performance from Indonesia, who had taken the lead, but the momentum turned in Cambodia’s hands so they won the set again with a score of 26-28. The tension continued in the third set. After a series of mistakes from Cambodia and a good performance from Farhan Halim, Indonesia cut the deficit to 1-2 after winning 25-22.
This victory pumped up Garuda’s enthusiasm until they managed to equalize the score at 2-2 after closing the fourth set with a 25-22 win. However, in the fifth deciding set, two early mistakes left Indonesia behind. Despite trying to close the gap, the Cambodian squad remained ahead and sealed a 12-15 victory, ending a tense match.
This defeat is an important reflection for Indonesia to maintain focus and improve performance ahead of Leg II in Jakarta. With an indefatigable spirit, Garuda is ready to rise in the next match and reclaim glory on the regional stage.
