Spanish League News: Hector Fort ended his 13-year association with the club of his life on Saturday to start a new stage at Real Sociedad.
The full-back, who arrived at La Masia aged seven, left Barcelona with the illusion of finding the game time and excellence at San Sebastian that he has not been able to attain in the first team, but left the door open for a possible return.
Barca have agreed to transfer the player to Real Sociedad for a fee of around 8 million euros, although the club has two ways to maintain control over his future: a buy-back clause and a percentage of future sales. A formula that allows the club to sell home-trained players without definitively closing the door on a return to Camp Nou if its evolution in the coming years suggests so.
Fort wanted to say goodbye to Barça with an emotional message. This is normal for a player who practically grew up near the Camp Nou.
“I was born just a few meters from Camp Nou, amidst a family and environment that really loves the colors of this club,” said the full-back.
“When he was 7 years old, everything started for a boy from Les Corts who used to play on the local field, who would later wear the uniform of the club that he always felt was his own,” he explained.
The defender highlighted everything he had experienced during those 13 years and his pride at being able to wear the Barça shirt at the highest level. “There are no words to describe how much it means to me to be able to fulfill my family’s dreams and, of course, my own dreams,” he said.
“Wearing these proud colors, winning various titles and wearing this symbol on my chest for 13 years is one of the most beautiful things that has ever happened in my life.”
Hector Fort also wants to emphasize that his bond with Barça does not end with his departure. “I am a *culer* and will always be,” said the academy graduate, while expressing his thanks to the people who have been part of his career journey for the support he has received over the years.
