Tennis News: Home tennis player Frances Tiafoe advanced to the final of the Cincinnati Open for the second time in the last three seasons thanks to a win in straight sets.

The 17th seed silenced compatriot Brandon Nakashima 7-5, 6-3, a win that sent him into the final of the Cincinnati Open.

As runner up in the Masters 1000 tournament, the 2024 Cincinnati Open, the 28 year old is determined to go further this season and win the biggest title of his career. For this reason, he will face the 21st seed, Arthur Fils in the final, which will ensure the birth of a new champion of the Masters 1000 tournament.

“It feels really amazing,” said Tiafoe when asked about his feelings about reaching the final. “I’m very happy. It was a great week and weekend — beyond expectations — so, I’m very happy.”

The opening set was full of surprises and changes, highlighted by four consecutive break of serve opportunities in the first six games. The 17th seed faced three set point opportunities while serving at 4-5, but saved two of them with a forehand winner, and finally managed to hold serve after a fierce 11-minute battle.

The former world number 10 excelled in forehand rallies and dared to come forward at crucial moments, then closed the match after 1 hour 42 minutes.

The 28-year-old became the third US male tennis player this century to reach more than one final at the Cincinnati Open, following in the footsteps of Andy Roddick (2003, 2005, 2006) and Mardy Fish (2003, 2010). By rising to 12th in the world rankings, his record of 37 wins in ATP tournaments this season makes him the US male tennis player with the most wins.

In an effort to win the fifth ATP tournament title in his career, Tiafoe increasingly dominated the head to head against Nakashima to 7-1. The 27th seed himself holds the record for most wins in hard-court tournaments this season with a total of 22 wins.

The 2026 Cincinnati Open final will be the second meeting between 17th seed Tiafoe and Frenchman Fils after the 21st seed won their first meeting in Miami last season.
