European Basketball News: Walter Tavares has decided to prioritize Real Madrid Basketball and its recovery. The center player from Cape Verde—who was initially included in the national team squad to face the FIBA qualifying matches against Tunisia, Guinea and Nigeria—in the end will not participate with the Cape Verdean national team.
The goal is clear: to continue preparations for next season and maintain his physical condition after a season marked by various injuries.
This decision was taken especially after a left knee injury which kept him out of the final stages of last season. Tavares, who has been out of action for four months, believes the most important thing now is to complete his recovery without taking unnecessary risks.
“After careful consideration, I have decided not to fulfill this call to the Cape Verdean National Team,” wrote Walter Tavares on social media.
The Real Madrid player explained the reasons behind his decision to resign and prioritized a cautious attitude. “After being out for four months due to injury, I think the most responsible step is to stay with the team, continue his recovery and return to playing gradually.”
This decision is in line with Real Madrid’s priority: ensuring that their main players in the area near the basket (*paint area*) arrive in the best condition as they start a very physically demanding season.
