Tennis News: Home tennis player Jenson Brooksby issued a convincing statement thanks to his latest win at the Winston-Salem Open in the 2026 season.
The 25-year-old didn’t face many obstacles when silencing Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 result in the 60-minute first round of the Winston-Salem Open, which was their first meeting at an ATP tournament.
Facing the strong serve of 23-year-old Mpetshi Perricard, the home player appeared dominant in his returns as he converted four of the six break point opportunities he created, while he himself did not allow his opponent to create a single break point opportunity, and showed a neat effort from the baseline area.
Apart from that, the world number 74 also won 75 percent of the points from his first serve and 85 percent of the points from his second serve, while Mpetshi Perricard won 67 percent of the points from his first serve and 44 percent of the points from his second serve before booking a second round match against the Greek tennis player, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
“I think we really strategized about how best to hit the ball on the return,” Brooksby answered when asked about his impressive return performance.
The second round match at the Winston-Salem Open will be Brooksby’s second meeting against former world number 3 Tsitsipas after he won their first meeting at the Indian Wells Open in the 2022 season.
In other action, Serbian tennis player Miomir Kecmanovic also performed impressively when he beat Japanese player Sho Shimabukuro 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Winston-Salem Open and face the 15th seed, Fabian Marozsan. The winner of the meeting has the opportunity to meet the first seed, Daniil Medvedev in the third round.
Meanwhile, Italian tennis player Mattia Bellucci will challenge his compatriot and second seed, Luciano Darderi in the second round after he knocked out Spanish national Martin Landaluce 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
In the draw of the same match, Adolfo Daniel Vallejo was leading 5-4, 3-0 when his Spanish opponent, Pablo Carreno Busta was forced to withdraw from the match. In the second round, the Paraguayan national will duel against the 13th seed, Botic van de Zandschulp.
