Tennis News: Carlos Alcaraz — in a moment that feels like it hasn’t happened in a very long time — returns to training in front of fans ahead of the 2026 US Open season.
The Spaniard’s absence from tennis for four long months has seen the ATP tournament go through a less than exciting period, with a worrying drop in quality compared to the performance he and Italian Jannik Sinner displayed throughout the 2025 season.
It seems almost ridiculous to hear some people think that watching two tennis stars continuously face each other in almost every final match will be boring.
It cannot be denied that currently, the duel between the Spaniard and Sinner is the peak of men’s tennis competition, but, even though it is now the end of August, the two have only met once.
The hope is that before the season ends, fans can witness several more meetings between them. Tennis fans are certainly waiting with great interest to see the real performance of the 2026 Australian Open champion after a long absence from the court.
When the former world No. 1 tennis player announced that he would be competing at the US Open, the sports world greeted him with joy. However, there are still those who remain skeptical.
His presence in the area of the match in New York clearly shattered the opinion of those who still insisted that he would not compete in the Grand Slam. In fact, after undergoing a training session, he also took time for a short interview.
When speaking on the field, he started by telling everything he missed during his recovery period.
“Of course, after several months recovering from injury, I miss everything. I miss this place, I miss the audience, I miss the ball kids,” said Alcaraz.
“I don’t think there’s a better place to start over than here, so I feel very grateful. I’m really happy.”
Later, when discussing his decision to return to compete at the US Open, Alcaraz added, “Yes, this is a very special tournament for me. This is a Grand Slam with a best of five sets format. As I said, returning to compete in a Grand Slam after more than four months was not an easy decision, but I tried hard to prepare myself as best as possible for this tournament.”
However, before returning to competition in the best five sets format, Alcaraz will partner Serena Williams in the US Open mixed doubles which starts this week.
