Stephen Curry’s decision to end speculation about his Golden State Warriors future is in the spotlight. The Warriors star emphasized his intention to spend his career with the team that has become his home. Even though there has been no signature on a contract extension, Curry has clearly stated that his focus remains on preparing for the new season, not on the rumors circulating.
Curry still has one year remaining on his contract, with a payout of US$62.5 million due in the 2026-2027 season. Since Saturday (29/8) US time, he has the right to extend his contract. However, at 38 years old, Curry is still proving himself to be one of the top players. Last season, he averaged 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds despite only appearing in 43 games due to a knee injury.
Curry emphasized, “A contract agreement will come in due time. We will not let it interfere with preparations for this season. We have a team that knows each other well.” Warriors fans hope that this team can recover after failing to advance to the playoffs last season and failing to make a big breakthrough in the free player transfer market. Names such as LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo were expected to join to strengthen this dynasty which is starting to fade.
However, reality says otherwise. Golden State opted to retain most of last season’s squad, including Draymond Green, Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Charles Bassey. Curry himself will get the highest salary in the league in 2026-2027 with 62.6 million US dollars per year.
However, the NBA’s “Over-38 Age Rule” limits Curry’s contract to a maximum of three years. Currently, he can only sign a maximum two-year contract worth 136.7 million US Dollars. Despite all this uncertainty, all indications are that Curry will extend his tenure. The legendary marksman is determined to retire as part of the Warriors.
