European Basketball News: After impressing with Puerto Rico in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifying window, Ethan Thompson is now in Europe for the first time.
Immediately after arriving in Belgrade—where he will start his training camp with Partizan Belgrade—Thompson gave a short interview to Mozzart Sport.
“I’m very enthusiastic. This is a new opportunity for me to play for a great and historic organization in a great city. I’m ready,” said Ethan Thompson upon arrival in the Serbian capital.
“There will be fierce competition and tough games; every possession will be crucial. That’s how I view basketball, and I hope the fans will see that in my game.”
Thompson once played in the G League with Carlik Jones, who will now be his teammate in the Serbian capital.
“He told me a lot of positive things; he really likes the club and the city. We’ve played together before and had a lot of success. Both of our skills have improved a lot compared to when we played together before. I’m sure we’ll do even better.”
Thompson admits that the decision to move to Europe was a tough one, but he is ready to continue growing:
“It wasn’t easy for me to decide to move to Europe. We all dream of playing in the NBA—I made that happen last season with Indiana—but I felt that in order to continue to develop, I had to come here and get a chance to play a slightly different style of basketball. I’m sure I’ll make progress,” he said.
“I can do a lot of things on the pitch. But, for sure, I’m ready to fight and score points. I’ve seen various videos on Instagram. The atmosphere is extraordinary.”
“There is no better place to play basketball than here. I have also heard about the rivalry that exists; I think every game will be very interesting. I know there is a big history here, and I will try to make my own mark,” concluded Thompson.
