Premier League News: Newcastle United midfielder, Nico Gonzalez, admitted that he was happy to make a sweet debut with The Magpies when they faced Tottenham Hotspur.

On matchday 2 of the 2026/27 Premier League which was held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Saturday (29/8) evening WIB, the Magpies managed to beat the hosts with a score of 2-0. The Magpies’ two winning goals in this match were scored respectively by Anthony Elanga in the 62nd minute and Yoane Wissa in the 72nd minute.
Apart from this victory, this match also has a special meaning for Nico Gonzalez. The reason is, he made a sweet debut with Newcastle.
“It’s amazing. I’ve only been here four days so it’s not easy for me to start, but I’m very happy with the work I’ve done and the team has done,” Gonzalez told BBC Match of the Day.
“The idea (in the second half) was the same, but we made some adjustments and were a little more aggressive. I think this group has a lot of potential, we are still very young and have a lot of room to grow, and even today I feel like we are continuing to improve and feel more comfortable, and that’s the way we have to continue.”
Finally, Gonzalez commented on his role in Newcastle’s first goal in the match.
“It’s something I talked a lot about with the coach. He wanted me to see this type of passing and I tried it a few times in the first half and the second half and we scored. It’s something we’ve tried to practice. In the second half we said, ‘we have to keep doing this because it’s very difficult to defend against this type of player.’ I hope this gives us more goals this season.”
