The new Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Bagas Maulana / Indah Cahya Sari Jamil, managed to start their debut with a win at the 2026 Polytron Pontianak International Challenge tournament after defeating representatives from New Zealand, Daniel McMillan / Camellia Zhou.
Bagas Maulana, who separated from Muh Putra Erwiansyah in the men’s doubles, and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil, who separated from Adnan Maulana, managed to get rid of Daniel McMillan / Camellia Zhou in two fairly easy straight games with a score of 21-5 and 21-13, in the match which took place at the Ahmad Yani Integrated Sports Hall, Pontianak, West Kalimantan on Thursday (27/8) evening WIB.
Bagas Maulana admitted that he was initially quite nervous because it was his first time playing in the mixed doubles sector, after previously taking part in the men’s doubles sector.
“It feels very different, it’s quite tense because it’s the first time I’ve played mixed doubles. It’s been too long since I played men’s doubles and yes, this is the start for me in the future to be better,” said Muhammad Shohibul Fikri’s former partner in a press statement from PP PBSI Public Relations and Media.
“Indeed, from the start of preparation, we really tried to harmonize the pattern of play because Bagas, from men’s doubles, had a different way of playing,” said Indah.
Qualifying for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Polytron Pontianak International Challenge, Bagas-Indah will fight against her compatriots at the Cipayung National Training Center, Dejan Ferdinansyah / Apriyani Rahayu.
The pair Dejan Ferdinansyah / Apriyani Rahayu successfully reached the last eight after defeating their juniors on the national team, Verrel Yustin Mulia / Bernadine Anindya Wardana in a tight rubber game with a score of 21-16, 16-21 and 21-19.
Meanwhile, the unseeded pair Muhammad Al Farizi / Jessica M Rismawardani managed to create a surprise by eliminating the second seed and their compatriot, M Nawaf Khoriyansyah / Nahya Muhyifa in a tight rubber game with a score of 21-18, 20-22 and 21-14.
