Volleyball News! The Indonesian Women’s National Volleyball Team had to be willing to admit the superiority of its opponent, Iran, in the quarter-final match of the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship which took place at the Tianjin Olympic Center Gymnasium, China, on Friday, 28 August 2026. The match was fierce, but Indonesia had to give up with a score of 1-3 after a great battle.
Coach Marcos Sugiyama’s squad displayed its full strength by installing the main line-up. Ersandrina Devega, who is familiarly called Caca, emerged as an early star in the match with Chelsa Berliana Nurtomo. The combination of Caca’s hard spike and Chelsa’s strong fortification helped Indonesia dominate the first set with a landslide win 25-19.
However, a quick response came from Iran in the second set. The Indonesian national team proved to have difficulty maintaining its rhythm, so they had to accept a 16-25 defeat from opponents who were starting to get up. Even though it was balanced at the start, the wave of Iranian attacks was unstoppable.
In the third set, hopes of a comeback were dashed as Arsela Nuari and friends lost direction in the game. Without being able to secure important points, they surrendered with a devastating score of 12-25. Being 1-2 behind certainly makes the situation even more difficult for Indonesia.
Iran increasingly showed its superiority in the fourth set, closing off Indonesia’s opportunity to develop further. The national team finally had to give up with a score of 17-25 which stopped their progress in this tournament. Thus, the Indonesian team fought hard to reach the quarter-finals without being able to continue to the next stage.
