Tennis News: Arthur Fils advanced to the semifinals of his third Masters 1000 tournament of the 2026 season at the Cincinnati Open, after beating Thiago Agustin Tirante.

The French tennis player appeared stunning when he defeated the Argentine tennis player, Agustin Tirante, who had reached the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 tournament for the first time, with a convincing result 6-3, 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open which lasted 64 minutes.

In one of the most dominant performances of the season, the 22-year-old outclassed 25-year-old Agustin Tirante with powerful baseline shots and confident serving in their first meeting at an ATP tournament.

Thanks to this victory, the world number 21 became the first French tennis player to reach three semifinals of the Masters 1000 tournament in one season since Guy Forget, who achieved a similar feat in the 1991 season.

“What a day, what a day,” exclaimed Fils after claiming the quickest win of the tournament so far. “This is my first time playing on Cincinnati’s main court. The energy is different, the atmosphere is different. I just played my best game and I’m very satisfied with this performance.”

After securing a crucial break opportunity at 4-3 in the first set, the French tennis player continued to hit very hard forehand shots, continuously pressing Agustin Tirante until he was in a defensive position.

The 22-year-old tennis player broke his Argentinian opponent’s serve twice in the second set and did not face a break point opportunity throughout the match.

The French tennis player will now face the Italian tennis player, Flavio Cobolli for a place in the final match of the Cincinnati Open, where both players are trying to reach the final of the Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in their careers. This ensures the presence of a new Masters 1000 tournament finalist for the third time this season, following Jiri Lehecka in Miami and Brandon Nakashima in Montreal.

“I’m really looking forward to the match against Flavio,” said Fils. “He’s had a great season. He’s playing his best tennis. It’s going to be an interesting match. He’ll play aggressively against me and I’ll do the same against him. We’ll enjoy it.”

Since returning from an eight-month layoff due to injury in February, Fils has had a solid season. He is now 30-10 in ATP tournaments this season with his most notable achievements so far being winning the title in Barcelona and success in reaching the semifinals of the Masters 1000 tournaments in Miami and Madrid.
