Tennis News: Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas showed his skills when he started the 2026 US Open season.
The former world number 3 managed to beat tenth seed Arthur Fils 4-6, 7-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a thrilling first round of the US Open.
In an enthralling match at Louis Armstrong Stadium, the 28-year-old recovered after dropping the first set and losing serve, including dampening an explosive start from Frenchman Fils before unleashing a devastating forehand attack.
The 2019 ATP Finals champion — who for the first time in his career at the US Open appeared as an unseeded player after going through a difficult time over the last 12 months — will next face qualifying player Lloyd Harris in his comeback bid.
Fils arrived in New York riding a six-match winning streak after winning the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati eight days earlier, but he failed to contain the Greek national who performed at the level of play needed to achieve an impressive victory and confirm his quality in 2 hours 54 minutes.

However, Tsitsipas played freely and the level of play he once used to reach world number 3 and qualify for two Grand Slam finals was demonstrated again, so he was able to turn things around and finally score the first victory in their rivalry.

British tennis player, Jacob Fearnley, was one of the tennis players who survived a fierce five-set match after he won 4-6, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 over Spanish national, Martin Landaluce. Advancing to the second round of the US Open, he will meet the 27th seed, Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
