Todd Golden Gets Contract Extension and Salary Increase in Florida

Ligaolahraga.com –

Florida Gators basketball coach Todd Golden has received another contract extension and salary increase.

The latest deal makes Golden the second highest paid coach in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) for next season.

Todd Golden, 40, signed a one-year contract extension in early August.

The deal increases the total value of his contract to 49.5 million US dollars with an average pay of 8.25 million US dollars per year.

Golden will remain in charge of Florida through the 2031-32 season.

Golden’s salary for next season increased from 6 million to 7.5 million US dollars. After that, he will receive increases of 300,000 US dollars each year until he reaches 9 million US dollars in the final year of his contract.

Only three coaches are scheduled to have a higher salary than Golden next season, namely Kansas’ Bill Self, UConn’s Dan Hurley and Arkansas’ John Calipari.

North Carolina’s new coach, Michael Malone, will also receive $7.5 million this season.

Golden’s contract is almost completely guaranteed. If Florida fires him without a reason that satisfies the terms of the contract, the university is obligated to pay 85 percent of the remaining value of the contract.

Todd Golden also has a sizable release clause if he leaves Florida.

The buyout value reaches 16 million US dollars next season, then drops to 13 million in 2027-28, 5 million in 2028-29, 3 million in 2029-30, 2 million in 2030-31, and 1 million in 2031-32.

However, the clause is much lower if Golden leaves to coach in the NBA. The NBA buyout is set at $3 million next season, dropping to $2 million in 2027-29 and then $1 million starting in 2029-30.

In his compensation package, Golden also receives a loyalty incentive of US $ 500,000 per year as well as an expense allowance of US $ 100,000.

He received additional facilities in the form of use of the university’s athletic association jet for 30 hours as well as vehicle, ticket, travel and other facilities worth around US $ 62,000.

Golden also has the opportunity to get bonuses based on performance. He will receive $100,000 if Florida wins the SEC regular season, $50,000 for the SEC tournament title, and $100,000 if he advances to the NCAA Tournament.

Each win in the NCAA Tournament is worth an additional 50,000 US dollars.

Florida already stated in May that it wanted to keep Golden. The decision is supported by his accomplishments during his four seasons in Gainesville.

Golden has a 103-41 record or a .715 winning percentage, including a 36-4 record in the 2024-25 season when he led the Gators to the third national title in program history.

Florida is even the betting favorite to become champion again this season. Golden retained about 82 percent of the team’s point production last season, including three key players, Rueben Chinyelu, Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh.
