Spanish League News: Hansi Flick is not worried about Lamine Yamal’s failure to start the season well and revealed that Rodri could make his debut as a starter for Barcelona against Rayo Vallecano.
After starting their efforts to defend their La Liga title with two consecutive wins over Elche and Athletic Club, Barca will host Rayo at Camp Nou on Monday (31/08).
But when asked if he had any concerns about Lamine Yamal’s attitude, Hansi Flick said: “It’s always good for players to smile. I don’t smile every day either.
“Everyone was affected by how great Lamine was. He played in the World Cup after injury and is now back from a three-week holiday.
“Maybe he is not at his best, but I am very happy with what he has given us in the first two games.
“Against Athletic Club he played 90 minutes and that’s good news. You haven’t seen him play well, but today he was great in training. He’s on the right track.”
Barca brought Rodri off the bench after just 60 minutes against Athletic, having paid €76.5m (£65.4m) to bring in the World Cup Golden Ball winner from Manchester City.
And Flick says the former Ballon d’Or winner could play a bigger role in Monday’s match.
“He had some problems in the last few days, but today he trained and felt very good,” said Flick. “Of course he is ready to be a starter. We’ll see what happens.”
