The 22-year-old advanced to the semifinals of his third tournament of the season at the Winston-Salem Open. He beat the left-handed player from Argentina, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 in the quarter-finals which lasted 2 hours 48 minutes.
As the highest seed remaining in the tournament held in North Carolina, the peak achievement of the third seed’s career occurred last May when he won the first ATP tournament title of his career at the ATP level 500 tournament, the Hamburg Open.
“In my opinion, this match is a mental battle,” said Buse with a smile. “The humidity was very high, the conditions were very different compared to previous days. I think mentally, we were both equally tough. However, I think my mental toughness was a little superior in the third set.”
At the same time last season, the Peruvian tennis player was ranked 135th in the world, while this week he is ranked 36th in the world, so he could become the seeded tennis player at the US Open.

Bonzi beat 13th seed Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6, 6-4 to advance to his sixth ATP tournament semifinal and first since he won his only ATP tournament title in the 2024 season at the Moselle Open.
Another tennis player who is enjoying a season full of brilliant achievements is Arthur Fery. The British tennis player previously made a fairy-tale progress to the Wimbledon semifinals and has now managed to reach the last four at the Winston-Salem Open.
As the fourth seed, Fery came from behind to beat American Aleksandar Kovacevic 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
By ranking 35th in the world, Fery is certain to reach a new highest ranking in his career on Monday. Eight weeks ago, his position was still outside the top 100.
In the semifinals, Fery will meet the 15th seed, Fabian Marozsan or Australian tennis player, James Duckworth.
