Indonesian men’s singles badminton player, Richie Duta Richardo, succeeded in advancing to the final round of the 2026 Polytron Pontianak International Challenge home tournament after eliminating the representative from Malaysia, Tan Jia Jie.
Occupying second seed, it was easy for Richie Duta Richardo to beat Tan Jia Jie in two straight games with a score of 21-16 and 21-15, in a match which took place at the Ahmad Yani Integrated Sports Hall, Pontianak, West Kalimantan on Saturday (29/8) afternoon WIB.
“Certainly happy to be back in the final,” he responded in a press statement from PP PBSI Public Relations and Media.
“The match was busy at the start, but after the interval I knew better how to play, I got direction from the coach too. I tried to be more patient and not die alone,” Richie added.
Next, in the final round of the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge 2026 on Sunday (30/8), Richie Duta Richardo will fight against the representative from India, Ginpaul Sonna.
Previously, the new Indonesian mixed doubles pair, Dejan Ferdinansyah / Apriyani Rahayu managed to reach their first final at the Polytron Pontianak International Challenge 2026 home tournament thanks to victory over representatives from Taiwan, Bo Yuan Chen / Yan Fei Chen.
Having fallen behind in the first game, Dejan Ferdinansyah / Apriyani Rahayu successfully defeated Bo Yuan Chen / Yan Fei Chen in a tight rubber match with a score of 11-21, 21-10 and 21-10.
“Today we played quite well, even though we have known since yesterday that every match is not easy,” he said in a press statement from PP PBSI Public Relations and Media.
“I think in the first game the condition of the field was different, the condition of the ball was a bit heavy so we needed to adapt first and their attack was quite strong so we experienced a little difficulty at the start,” Dejan added.
Pontianak International Challenge 2026 is Dejan-Apriyani’s first final since they were paired some time ago.
But unfortunately, Indonesian professional men’s singles badminton player, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, had to stop in the last four of the 2026 Polytron Pontianak International Challenge home tournament after losing to a young player from India, Ginpaul Sonna.
Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, who is seeded 10th, had to recognize Ginpaul Sonna’s toughness in a tight match in two straight games with scores of 19-21 and 10-21.
This defeat meant that Chico Wardoyo failed to secure the title because the young National Pelatnas player, Richie Duta Richardo, was waiting in the final.
